Firstly, you’ll be pleased to know that our new album is currently in the mastering phase of production. We’ve been promising it a long time (our original estimates of “early 2009″ look ridiculous), but there’s genuinely not long to wait now.
To coincide with the release, we will in all likelihood be giving the official site a bit of a revamp, so please bear with us if certain things disappear for a bit. But whatever happens, the latest Home Guard news will always be available from here:
Back in March The Home Guard were featured on The Nerve Cast Show, and we’ve got the clip to prove it (click to play, right-click and “Save Target as…” to download):
The Nerve Cast seems to be going from strength to strength. Having started as something of a labour of love, their main website (www.nervecastradio.com) apparently clocked up a staggering 95 million hits between November and June! According to their blog, in the week that we were on the show just over 100,000 listeners “tuned in”.
The Home Guard would like to thank all at The Nerve Cast for their support: it’s a privilege to be on board, and we hope they continue their bid for world domination. You can check out their MySpace page here:
It seems that the likes of Facebook and Last.fm strip out all the good stuff – such as embedded YouTube videos – when putting our news feed on their site (as we found out to our detriment with the Champagne Socialist vid).
Anyway, our vast quantities of gratitude are pushed in Mike’s direction for going to the trouble of editing this together for us. The use of a Betty Boop cartoon (Parade of the Wooden Soldiers) especially pleases me, as classic animation is one of my “guilty pleasures”. Thanks, Mike – great job!
As always, if anyone thinks they can do a better job, or simply wants to get in one the act, we challenge you to give it a go! If you set one of our songs to pictures (moving or a slideshow), we’ll feature it on this blog and add you to our list of Very Special People. And once you’re on that list, who knows what that will bring…?
You can download the high-quality version of the Friend or Foe? video here, by the way:
Perhaps The Home Guard have gone global after all! Our good MySpace friend Vijayan played us on his Indian radio show, and we’ve got the clip to prove it (click to play, right-click to download):
This is taken from a show called the “The Yesterday Once More Carnival Special” – I may have this wrong, but I think that it broadcasts on All India Radio (their equivalent of the BBC, as I understand it). Unfortunately we can’t host the full show for copyright reasons, but you can get a little of the exotic flavour from this clip.
Many, many thanks to Vijayan for helping to spread our music far and wide! You can listen to his band here:
We will forever be indebted to our Last.fm friend vjsupersaint for putting together this video for us:
The footage (which is in the public domain, before anyone kicks up a fuss) is taken from the 1921 Buster Keaton film, The Playhouse.
Thanks again, Mike!
EDIT: It seems that certain sites – including Facebook and Last.fm – strip out embedded videos from news feeds, rendering the above pretty useless if you’re reading this blog on there. Sorry! So, to see the vid, you can go here:
But Many More Radio was set up because “I have been ripped off in the past and I know what it’s like for bands and artist to get their music heard. The airwaves are swamped with tracks from major record companies muscling in and never giving unsigned artists a chance.” A worthy cause if ever we came across one! You can view their MySpace page here:
We urge you to support them for all they do for the unsigned community. But anyway, back to us. You can hear The Home Guard on Many More Radio all this week – four times a day – on the “Unsigned and Indie” programme here:
We’re delighted to announce that Many More Radio will add themselves to the ever-growing list of radio stations and podcasts to play The Home Guard tonight, so point your browser here:
The programme is broadcast at midnight in the UK, which is 6pm CST in the US. If you can’t listen live, details of the scheduled repeats are also on the above site.
Sorry for the short notice, but we’ve only just found out for ourselves. Hope you enjoy the show!
