The Home Guard YouTube channel

News @ 22 January 2009, “3 Comments”

As you may know, YouTube users launic and Allabest kindly got the ball rolling for us by making some videos of The Home Guard’s music and putting them on YouTube. Well, Allabest’s account has since disappeared, so we’re proud to announce the creation of The Home Guard YouTube Channel:

Here are the videos uploaded to date:

Champagne Socialist, created by Allabest. Here’s the direct link:

For No One, also created by Allabest. This is best viewed in high quality, which you can do here (turns out you have to add “&fmt=18″ to a YouTube link to get the high quality stereo version):

Incidentally, the free mp3 download of For No One is still available here:

Poor Man’s England, created by launic. Here’s the link:

You can download all these videos if you like, but be aware that some are over 100MB:

And if you think that the audio sounds a little different from before, well spotted: we’ve had to compensate for what YouTube does when you upload music, and this is good as we could get it.

Unfortunately, we’re in no real position to make videos ourselves, which is why all that you see in this channel are fan-made. If, though, you are inspired by any of our songs, are a budding director, think you can do better, or simply want to get in on the act, then please feel free! We’ll be happy for anyone to create a video or slideshow to accompany our material, whether it “fits” with the song or whether you just want to use us as background music.

Should you wish to do so, the simple ground rules to stick to are:

1) Tell us, so that we can host it too;
2) Put our name at the beginning and/or end, plus a link in the description;
3) Keep it relatively clean and suitable for all ages;
4) Steer clear of overt political or religious messages or imagery – we don’t wish to be used for propaganda purposes.

Extra kudos will go to anyone who makes an animated video, as we’re fans of animation. But we’ll be eternally grateful to anyone who makes any sort of video for us, so get those creative juices flowing!

    There’s something seriously wrong with the “high-quality” video of For No One. At around the 0:19 mark, the image quality begins to slowly get worse as the video progresses. Remember the bird with the jet-trails? I couldn’t even recognize the jet-trails anymore! :(

    Well spotted Ian – YouTube links aren’t as straightforward as I thought. I’ve corrected the post so that it now points to the higher quality stereo version rather than the compress-o-vision(TM) traditional YouTube one. Thanks for pointing that out!

    COMPRESS-O-VISION(TM)? AHHAHAHAAH!!! BRILLIANT!
